While small in size (usually 10 to 30 rooms) guest homes are big on fun � often sporting a private swimming pool where the drinks are mandatory and the clothing optional. It's a great way to cultivate new friends and an all-over tan. But along with the economical prices come a relaxed atmosphere; so don�t be surprised if you return from the gay clubs to find the concierge hosing the sand out of your lobby. It is the beach afterall!

* Want to be pampered? If you prefer the more traditional, sophisticated hotels, you'll find plenty of resort rich in amenities and gay-friendly service that appeal to the most discerning gay men. * Staying awhile? If your trip extends longer than a couple weeks, consider renting a beach-front apartment. Several agencies rent reasonably priced furnished apartments by the day, week or month. Whether you are an executive on the move, in between homes or just visiting South Florida, in no time you'll feel like a local! Remember - not all the apartments are on the beach ! Attractions and Distractions

After a refreshing nights sleep in your hotel of choice, you'll be eager to explore the city. Miami is an International Tourist Destination - considered glamorous and chic and full of pretty people. Pick up the latest tabloid magazine to find photos of your favorite celebs canoodling on the beach or partying at one of Miami's hottest hotels or nightspots. Of course, South Beach is well known for its pastel-hued art deco architecture and hip-shaking nightclubs, but other sections of Miami offer an equally compelling mix of culture, recreation and fun.
* Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of Little Havana or soak up the rays at Haulover Beach Park.
* Explore the Art Deco District's largest concentration of 1920s and 1930s resort architecture in the world.
*Take a trip to Miami Metrozoo, a cageless zoo where animals roam in settings similar to their natural habitats.

Miami's tropical playground boasts miles of sandy beaches. People watching (okay, cruising!) is a great pastime in Miami's South Beach, which draws celebrities and beautiful people in skimpy swim attire eager to see and be seen. There are two main gay beaches: the gym-friendly, smooth crowd 12th Street beach in South Beach and the Haulover Beach in North Miami (a 20 to 30 minute drive from South Beach - north on A1A ). The Haulover Beach is clothing-optional so be sure to bring your SPF 30 (and a camera!). Parking is $5 per day. When you enter the beach from the parking lot - the Gay Beach is on the north side (left from the entrance).

Miami claims to be sunny over 300 days per year so that leaves 65 days to shop:

* The Shops of Bal Harbour(www.balharbourshops.com) is an upscale shopping center in North Miami Beach.

* Also worth visiting is Coco Walk in Coconut Grove (www.galleryatcocowalk.com) which is an assortment of upscale boutiques, high end national retailers, art galleries and an assortment of dining. Coco Walk has a large straight crowd during the evening hours - but if you enjoy more mainstream live music and entertainment, it is certainly worth the visit.

* Nearby is Coral Gables and the Miracle Mile (www.shopcoralgables.com) featuring high end retailers and restaurants nestled below the canopy of palms. Another great escape from the distractine gaiety of South Beach is the Miami Seaquarium where you can swim with dolphins and see hundreds of live species of fish and aquatic life. www.miamiseaquarium.com

Miami is the cruise capital of the world - no, not THAT kind of cruising - ship cruising! The Port of Miami in downtown Miami www.co.miami-dade.fl.us/portofmiami hosts twenty-five ocean carriers that serve more than thirty countries and 100 ports in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Everglades National Park is located in the southern tip of Florida, just an hour and a half west of Miami. There are five visitor centers located in the park. Each area of the park has its own attractions, and features a different set of plant and animal life.

At the end of an adventurous day, get some help relaxing; Miami has many gay-friendly masseuses who will be happy to rub you the right way.

Gay Bars and Night Clubs in Miami

Miami Nightlife is intoxicating - literally! The party seems to never stop: as you roll back to your hotel at four in the morning, you'll bump into club-goers just heading out! And even though Miami's nightlife has a well-earned reputation of featuring preening models and posing boys, that's not all you'll find in the gay nightclubs of Miami.

The city offers a unique beat, particularly for the gay scene. While the perception of Miami's nightlife tends to be about the "See and Be Seen" crowd, that really isn't the case in the gay bars on South Beach. Sure - there are plenty of pretty boys, but the neighborhood bars and gay-friendly clubs in South Beach offer an ambience of "everyone is welcome" so regardless of the club you choose, you'll find people there from all walks of gay life: circuit boys, club kids and jocks and average Joes. The attire tends to be on the casual side - jeans and a tight T are never out of style, but if heading to one of the top clubs (usually the ones with cover charges), check ahead for dress codes. You want to stand out in the crowd for the right reasons - not due to a fashion faux pas.

Unlike the gay bars in large cities like New York City that drain your wallet, Miami's gay nightlife tends to be quite affordable. There are the special event gay clubs that charge $20 cover charges but the most popular and longest lived gay bars in Miami rarely require a cover charge, and when they do, they do their best to keep it affordable.

There is a vast Latino population in Miami so you might want to brush up on your Spanish or Portugese when you hit Miami so you know what that sexy Papi is saying to you? "Puedo comprar le yo una bebida?" always works for us!

The South Beach and Miami nightlife varies from the vibrant and exotic to intimate and reserved. Gay bars and gay-friendly clubs regularly promote theme nights and live shows, and Miami is a regular stop on the "party circuit" as well.
